Asphalt Shingles

Asphalt Shingles

The Trusted Mainstay of Residential Roofing

Asphalt shingles are installed on the overwhelming majority of steep-sloped residential roofs. There’s good reason for that. They’re economical to install, maintain, and repair, and a properly installed asphalt shingle roof can provide many years of reliable, leak-free service.

Asphalt shingles are now available in a wide variety of colors, textures, and styles for expanded design options. And today, shingle manufacturing has evolved to a point where many brands offer excellent fire resistance. Some have additives that make them resistant to algae, an important concern in warm, humid climates.

Most contemporary asphalt shingles are reinforced with fiberglass, but natural felt also continues in use.

Most asphalt singles are recyclable, making them an environmentally friendly choice. Many localities have “Roofs to Roads” programs that collect old shingles for use in pavement mixtures.
