Pace Resource Building, York, PA
A longtime distinguished landmark in York’s architectural landscape, the current home of Pace Resources is a vintage carriage house that, over its history, has served a variety of functions ranging from dairy barn to ice cream parlor. To restore the roof in a way that was faithful to the surrounding architectural aesthetics, Heidler Roofing installed copper panels on the domed roof, topped off with a decorative finial and a weathervane that our craftsmen created from scratch, using the technique of planishing. An art that dates to metalsmiths of antiquity, planishing has been applied to such fine crafts as fabricating suits of armor in medieval times.

The Baltimore Basilica
With such distinguished architectural features as portico columns and domed clocktowers topped with spires, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, in Baltimore, was the first cathedral built in the United States and remains one of the nation’s finest examples of neoclassical architecture. In 2004, Heidler Roofing was honored with a contract to complete a historically authentic renovation of the Basilica’s roof, with copper, terne-coted stainless steel, and wood shake roofing.

Fulton Bank, Old Penn Square, Lancaster, PA
When planning a new corporate headquarters in the historic Old Penn Square in Lancaster, Fulton Bank wanted a building that was faithful to the city’s architectural history and aesthetically compatible with the diversity of vintage and contemporary styles in the surrounding urban landscape.
A key element of the solution was a curved roof that has the smooth appearance of a single, continuous copper panel. Eye-catching for its technological sophistication, this modern copper application is also harmonious with several nearby historic structures that feature domed copper roofs, including the clock tower of the Lancaster County Courthouse, a major local landmark.
Heidler Roofing’s work on the Fulton Bank Headquarters included complex sheet metal work and extensive detailing to install a Garland R-Mer Span® structural standing seam system. The copper panels, each 70 feet long, were custom-curved by Heidler’s sheet metal team.

Conductor’s Kiosk, Continental Square, York, PA
Built in the 1880s when Yorkers relied on trolleys to shuttle them about their daily business, the Conductor’s Kiosk, one of the city’s venerated historical landmarks, was put in storage after suffering deterioration of its structure and water damage to its roof. But in 2009, after pro bono work by Heidler Roofing and other contractors, the Kiosk was restored to its original grandeur and returned to its proper home in Continental Square. Heidler Roofing’s role included using our metal roofing expertise and architectural metalwork talent to restore the domed copper roof and decorative finial.
